If you were jealous that Travis Pastrana inherited the driving duties for Hoonigan’s Gymkhana video series from Ken Block, just wait until you see Pastrana’s ride in 2022’s installment, which airs today.
The vehicle for this latest set of vehicular shenanigans is a 1983 Subaru GL wagon dubbed “The Family Huckster” that has been totally reborn thanks to a long-travel rally suspension, active aero, and a turbocharged Subaru engine good for 865 hp. Those race-bred parts aren’t just for looks, as they all get put to good use as Pastrana flirts with disaster in the rally wagon all over Florida for this huge production, with locations in Key West, Ford Lauderdale, and the Everglades.
Gymkhana 2022 features an abundance of absolutely absurd stunts that require tremendous skill from Pastrana as well as a number of stunt drivers and pilots including Floyd Ingram and his MD 500 helicopter.
An Aero L-39 Albatros jet trainer even filled in for a Harrier and lent some True Lies vibes to the Overseas Highway location. There are also a few additional cameos, including Cleetus McFarland and his turbocharged, 3000-hp El Camino.
“Gymkhana 2022 is the wildest film I have done on four wheels. Period,” said Travis Pastrana, Subaru rally driver and action sports legend.
“I never thought I’d race a fighter jet, do donuts around a monster truck doing nose wheelies, skim 100 feet across a six-foot-deep pond, or tandem slide with a helicopter. Definitely not in the same video. But here we are, with Gymkhana 2022!”
There’s also a twin-turbo fan boat and a Jet Ski, although neither appears exactly you’d expect it to. Because Florida.
We could go on about the turbocharged madness, but it’s best if you just spend the time and watch all of the madness unfold.
